Five members of a Hispanic family in Amarillo, Texas, died after a brutal accident caused by a drunk driver. The Amarillo Police Department (APD) reported the tragedy that claimed the lives of Andrea Aguirre, Angélica Aguirre, Raúl Colín, Teresita Colín, and Raúl Pérez.

The five family members were on their way at night last Wednesday, December 22, 2021, to see an installation of Christmas lights in a Nissan Altima car. When the family was going down a road, the drunk driver from a Chevrolet 250 truck hit them head-on.

According to the APD report on the accident, the driver of the Chevrolet 250 truck was also injured by the brutal impact. The driver’s name has not been released by the authorities. The man was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol.

The tragedy of Andrea Aguirre, her mother Angélica Aguirre, the elders Raúl and Teresita Colín, and the young Raúl Pérez has shocked the entire community of Amarillo, Texas, a semi-rural town in the northwest of the state surrounded by cattle ranches.

At 7:39 p.m. on December 22, 2021, the Hispanic family was traveling on Loop 335 highway, a road that circles the entire metropolitan area of ​​Amarillo, heading south almost at the intersection with St. Francis Avenue in the north of the city.

Suddenly, the Chevrolet 250 pickup on Loop 335 entered the oncoming lane for some reason, which investigators have yet to know for sure. The truck did not slow down and crashed head-on into the Hispanic family’s Nissan Altima.

The force of the impact between the Chevrolet 250 truck and the Nissan Altima caused the two cars to spin several laps to the side of the road without either driver being able to control their respective vehicles.

Other drivers passing through the area stopped to help the victims, and some more called 911 to report the fatal accident that caused the highway to be closed for several hours, disrupting traffic in northern Amarillo, Texas.

When the first APD patrolmen together with the paramedics of the Amarillo Fire Department (AFD) arrived at the scene and could not do anything for Angélica Aguirre, the husbands and elders Raúl Colín and Teresita Colín and the young Raúl Pérez.

All four members of the Hispanic family were pronounced dead at the crash site. The 23-year-old Andrea Aguirre was still alive and was rushed to a hospital in Amarillo, Texas. However, the girl died on the morning of Wednesday, December 23, 2021 due to the severity of her injuries.

In the hospital, the driver of the Chevrolet 250 truck that caused the accident for driving while intoxicated remains in critical condition with life-threatening injuries. As of this writing, he has not been charged.
