A 24-year-old woman, identified as Yarey, died after suffering severe burns during a purification ritual in the municipality of Tepotzotlán, State of Mexico.

The tragic incident occurred on March 2nd, when Yarey attended a «cleansing» session with a childhood friend.

The ritual was conducted on a property near the municipal nursery of Tepotzotlán by a supposed healer of the region, identified as Daniel «N».

According to witnesses, the man allegedly used alcohol during the procedure, which resulted in the young woman being engulfed in flames.

According to Viridiana, the victim’s sister, Yarey’s friend left the session before the incident because she could not endure the ritual.

Minutes later, Yarey emerged from the place with her body on fire, calling for help from her companion, according to ‘Telediario’.

«She was screaming for help, while the healer also came out of the site and told the friend that he was about to be jailed,» the sister recounted.

Paramedics arrived at the scene and transported the young woman to a hospital with second and third-degree burns on over 60% of her body.

Despite the doctors’ efforts, Yarey died three days later due to the severity of her injuries.

The victim’s family demands justice and a thorough investigation into what happened during the cleansing ritual.

«We don’t understand why she suffered those burns and her friend did not. If she is also responsible, she should pay too,» said Viridiana.

According to the family’s account, the alleged healer is hospitalized in Lomas Verdes with burns on his hands.

Authorities have requested an arrest warrant against him, but so far, the judge in charge of the case has not granted it.

«We want justice to be done. Put him in jail, or whoever has to fall,» demanded Yarey’s sister.

The victim was a hardworking and sociable young woman, studying industrial engineering and had recently acquired her first home.

Her loved ones describe her as a calm person, beloved by her community and coworkers.
