Woman arrested after deadly shooting in Montana

A 35-year-old woman was arrested Monday night after allegedly shooting and killing a 56-year-old man in Missoula.
The suspect, identified as John «Joan» Eikens, barricaded herself in a nearby residence before being detained by the SWAT team.
The incident occurred just after 7:30 p.m. on the 1700 block of South 8th Street, NBC Montana reported.
Upon arrival, officers found the victim, who was declared dead at the scene. His name has not yet been released.

Witnesses reported that Eikens returned to her residence with the firearm and barricaded herself inside.
The Crisis Negotiation Team (CNT) and SWAT team were called to the scene.

The CNT attempted to establish contact with Eikens for several hours, but without success.
SWAT eventually used «less lethal methods» to apprehend her.
John Eikens was arrested shortly after 11:00 p.m. without any further incidents.
The Missoula Police Department expressed its condolences to the family and friends of the victim.
They also assured the community that this was an isolated incident and that there is no ongoing threat to public safety.
The investigation into this deadly shooting is still ongoing. More information is expected to be released in the coming days.
