A powerful winter storm system will bring snow, heavy rain, and freezing temperatures to 40 states in the United States in the coming days.

According to the FOX Forecast Center, the bad weather will begin to impact on Monday and will persist throughout the week.

It will affect various regions with significant snow accumulations and a risk of flooding.

The first storm system will form in the Eastern Plains and the Mississippi Valley, moving eastward.

Heavy rain and flooding are expected from the Gulf Coast to the Tennessee Valley.

While the southern Ohio Valley and the Mid-Atlantic may see freezing precipitation.

This first winter storm system will move away from the United States coast on Wednesday.

Avoiding major accumulations in cities like New York and Boston but leaving slippery conditions after the Super Bowl.

A second system will develop in the Mississippi Valley on Wednesday, intensifying on Thursday and affecting the Great Lakes and the Northeast.

Ice accumulation could pose a danger in various areas, depending on the location of the freezing line.

However, the strongest winter storm will arrive to the US on the weekend when an Arctic air front pushes the freezing line further south.

Generating heavy snowfall in the Ohio Valley, the Northeast, and New England, with accumulations that could exceed 10 inches in some cities.

Weather models in the US indicate that Philadelphia, Baltimore, New York, and Boston will be among the most affected areas.

South of the freezing line, torrential rain is expected, which could cause flooding from the southern Tennessee Valley to the Gulf Coast.

In these regions, an accumulation of between 5 and 9 inches of rain is expected, increasing the risk of river flooding and landslides.

In addition to the precipitation, the passage of these storms will bring a mass of Arctic air that will reduce temperatures by 10 to 20 degrees below average.

The extreme cold will affect even southern areas, endangering crops that have already begun their process of premature flowering.

In contrast, the southwestern part of the US, especially California, will remain isolated from the winter storms.

However, changing weather patterns could cause strong wind gusts and an increase in fire activity in the region.

Weather conditions will remain unstable throughout February, with more storms forecasted for the central and east coast of the country.

Experts recommend that residents of the affected areas prepare with basic supplies.

And stay alert to alerts from the National Weather Service.

With winter still in full swing, next week’s storms could be just the beginning of a month of intense weather activity in much of the United States.

Precautions are recommended for bad weather, noted ‘Fox Weather‘.
