- Intense Rainfall and Possible Flooding
- Risk of Snow and Tornadoes
A massive winter storm stretching nearly 2,000 miles is wreaking havoc across various regions of the United States this week.
With an impact spanning from the South to the Northeast, the extreme weather includes torrential rains, heavy snowfall, and the threat of flash flooding.
Southern states, including Texas, Louisiana, Alabama, and Georgia, are under alert for heavy rain and potential flooding.
According to the FOX Forecast Center, rainfall accumulations of 2 to 3 inches are expected, with some areas possibly exceeding 5 inches.
Winter Storm to Expand to the Northeast
Louisiana and southern Alabama are expected to receive the heaviest rainfall, with Wednesday marked as a critical day.
Additionally, there is a low threat of severe storms, damaging winds, and even one or two tornadoes as the cold front moves rapidly.

Meanwhile, the Northeast will face a different type of winter storm.
Significant rainfall will drench the region, particularly along the Interstate 95 corridor, from New York to Boston.
Frigid Conditions in Northeast US
According to the FOX Forecast Center, these rains, fueled by a tropical moisture stream, could lead to accumulations of 3 to 5 inches through Thursday.
Wednesday is expected to be the most challenging day, with an elevated risk of flash flooding due to the high volume of water.
While this rainfall will not completely eliminate drought conditions in the Northeast, it provides much-needed relief for the area.
Travelers should anticipate significant disruptions in affected states. Heavy snowfall, rain, and winds could complicate both ground and air transportation.
Travel Impacts and Precautions
Residents in flood-prone areas should remain prepared and stay updated on local weather alerts.
Colder air returns to the region behind the cold front driving Wednesday’s rainfall.
The rain could mix with or transition to snow in parts of the interior Northeast and New England by Wednesday night.
However, due to wet ground and warmer temperatures ahead of the winter weather, it is difficult to predict where snow will fall and how much might accumulate.
