The storm will strike first in the Southwest until Thursday, when it turns eastward.

According to weather experts, this track will bring heavy rain and thunderstorms to the Gulf Coast states.

Thursday night into Friday, a swath of torrential rain and thunderstorms will threaten Gulf coastal areas.

It’s a boon for some places affected by an unusually extreme drought, especially in Louisiana and Mississippi, according to the U.S. Drought Monitor.

Although persistent rains may alleviate the drought, they also raise concerns about possible flooding and landslides in vulnerable areas.

Authorities urge residents to take precautions and be prepared for adverse weather conditions.

As the storm moves northeast over the weekend, it is expected to reach peak intensity along the mid-Atlantic coast.

Forecasters predict the storm will strengthen, dumping snow and ice on its path toward New England.

Meteorologists warn that heavier snow bands could develop, particularly from West Virginia and northwestern Virginia to the Hudson Valley.

Faced with this imminent threat, local and state authorities are taking precautionary measures for the approaching storm this weekend.

Travel conditions may deteriorate rapidly throughout Saturday and Saturday night as snow and ice spread across the region.

From Saturday to Sunday, a swath of 3 to 6 inches of snow is projected to fall from the Smoky Mountains across much of northern and eastern West Virginia.

This weekend’s storm may be a sharp return to reality for some, as the heart of winter quickly approaches.

This weekend, millions of people across the Northeast may experience their first winter storm with snowfall greater than 1 inch since early 2022.

“Any accumulating snow can result in significant travel slowdowns» explained chief AccuWeather meteorologist Jon Porter.

«[B]ut this storm may have a greater impact than others of similar magnitude because it has been such a long time since more than 1 inch of snow has accumulated in these areas,» he said.

The last time a single storm dumped more than an inch of snow in New York City was on February 13, 2022, and in Philadelphia it was on January 28-29, 2022.

«This is typically experienced during the first snowstorm of a season, like this one, but is amplified since it’s the first storm in several years.»

The I-95 corridor from Washington, DC, to Baltimore, Philadelphia, New York and Boston could get a few inches of snow.

This could be more snow than these areas have gotten in a couple of years.
