Through videos shared on TikTok, people managed to capture these air columns settling over the roofs of houses, without causing apparent damage.

In previous days, the National Water Commission (CONAGUA) reported about cold front number 49 over northwest Mexico.

They also reported a dry line in the north of the country and a frontal system on the northern border of the national territory.

According to ‘Infobae,’ these weather changes would generate wind gusts of 60 to 80 kilometers per hour (km/h) in Baja California.

So far, no material damage or injuries have been reported due to these natural phenomena occurring in the region.

One of them was a whirlwind that detached from the ground, reaching a height that exceeded the roofs of homes.

A user and resident of the San Felipe region, located in the state of Baja California, managed to capture the moment of this event.

The scene was quite striking for many, as such an event was unexpected at this time. Some even mistook it for a tornado.

However, to differentiate between them, it’s important to note that a whirlwind is a rotating column of air that forms over the earth’s surface or water.

Additionally, this phenomenon is typically of lower intensity and shorter duration. Whirlwinds can occur in various meteorological conditions, not necessarily linked to strong storms.

Moreover, these appear as the well-known dust devils, water spouts (also known as marine trombas), snow, or fire whirls.

In contrast, a tornado is a violently rotating column of air that extends from a thunderstorm to the ground.

It is characterized by its funnel-shaped appearance and can cause devastating damage due to its intense winds, according to ‘Infobae’.

Additionally, tornadoes form from storms known as supercells, which have sustained rotation.

They are more common in regions like the Midwest of the United States, although they can occur in nearly any part of the world.

The presence of warm, moist air near the ground, along with cold, dry air at upper levels, creates an unstable atmosphere.

Changes in wind speed and direction with height, known as wind shear, help generate horizontal rotation in the atmosphere.

The whirlwind in San Felipe sparked great interest on social media, highlighting the importance of being prepared for unexpected weather events.

«That’s a sign that something bad is happening in the world,» «Those are water spouts,» «They are aliens,» «Jesus Christ is coming soon,» said users.

Despite this whirlwind causing no damage, the community should stay informed and attentive to meteorological alerts, according to ‘Infobae‘. WATCH THE VIDEO HERE.
