On August 26, 2024, the Eastern District Court of Texas issued an order temporarily suspending probation under the Keeping Families Together Act.
This decision, part of the case Texas v. Department of Homeland Security, halts the granting of pending parole applications for certain spouses and stepchildren of U.S. citizens.
The suspension will be in effect for 14 days.
The United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has announced that, in compliance with the court’s decision, it will not approve new applications for parole during this period.

However, it will continue to accept Form I-131F submissions and schedule biometrics appointments at Application Support Centers (ASCs), according to the message from the USCIS.

President Joe Biden expressed his disagreement with the court’s decision, saying the United States should not separate families.
The statement noted that the affected couples have contributed to their communities for years and that their government took steps in June to protect their right to remain together.
Biden stressed that these families, made up of U.S. citizens and their non-citizen spouses, deserve to remain together while they regularize their legal status.
He criticized the court’s decision, calling it wrong, and vowed to continue fighting to prevent the unnecessary separation of these families.
The president also reaffirmed his commitment to border security.
As with immigration reform, he said his focus was on solving problems without destroying families.
