Iconic TV host Wendy Williams now has something in common with actor Bruce Willis.

Her care team made the announcement that she has been diagnosed with dementia and aphasia on Wednesday, February 21.

The details emerge just ahead of the release of a new documentary about her recent troubles, in an effort to put to rest rumors and speculation about her health.

The press release is described as a «very personal update» that seeks to clarify Williams’ medical situation.

Her team claims that, while her struggles with Graves’ disease and lymphedema were already publicly known, she is now facing something else.

According to TMZ, she had been losing her train of thought and exhibiting erratic behavior.

Her care team says, «In 2023, after undergoing a battery of medical tests, Wendy was officially diagnosed with primary progressive aphasia and frontotemporal dementia (FTD).»

Williams’ team highlighted the importance of the diligent work of her care team and specialists in making these diagnoses.

«Her team here also says this … «Wendy would not have received confirmation of these diagnoses were it not for the diligence of her current care team, who she chose…»

«[A]nd the extraordinary work of the specialists at Weill Cornell Medicine,» they noted.

They announced the diagnosis in hopes of raising awareness about Williams’ medical conditions.

Putting an end to the rumors

In addition, her team is trying to tamp down rumors that may arise after the release of the Lifetime documentary Where is Wendy Williams?

This move is also aimed at protecting her from possible speculation and providing her with the necessary support during this time.

Williams, known for her daytime talk show The Wendy Williams Show which premiered in 2008, stopped hosting in 2022 due to her declining health.

She was unable to host the final season and Sherri Shepherd, former co-host of The View, replaced her and now hosts Sherri.

Williams’ team concludes the update by assuring that, despite her health challenges, she is still able to perform many activities on her own.

Furthermore, they highlighted that she has maintained her characteristic humor.

«Most importantly she maintains her trademark sense of humor and is receiving the care she requires to make sure she is protected and that her needs are addressed,» they said.

And they also expressed Williams’ gratitude: «She is appreciative of the many kind thoughts and good wishes being sent her way.»

The revelation of Williams’ medical situation could indicate possible tensions between her care team and some members of her family.

This comes after various members of her family had expressed worry for her well-being in the media recently.

Some point out that they are not completely comfortable with the inner circle that surrounds Williams at the moment.
