The person responsible for the mass hit-and-run in New Orleans (USA)—which left 15 dead, including himself, during the New Year’s celebration—acted alone.
He was also inspired by the Islamic State (ISIS), the FBI confirmed on Thursday.
«At this point, we are not verifying that anyone else was involved in the attack,» said FBI Deputy Assistant Director Christopher Raia.
The events unfolded during a press conference in New Orleans to update the public on the investigation of the attack, which is being classified as a «terrorist act.»
SHAMSUD-DIN BAHAR JABBAR WAS INSPIRED BY ISIS
On Wednesday, authorities confirmed the death toll of 15 victims, noting that this figure also included the attacker himself, identified as Shamsud-Din Bahar Jabbar, a U.S. citizen and former military member.
Authorities examined several electronic devices (including computers and cell phones) found in the vehicle used in the attack and in a house where the attacker was staying in New Orleans.

With this, authorities concluded that no other individuals were involved, as initially thought during the investigation, explained Raia.
The information found on both the devices and Jabbar’s social media led them to conclude that he was «100% inspired by ISIS,» said the investigator.
Attack Details of the New Orleans Attack
Jabbar, continued the agent, posted several videos on social media on the night of December 31, where he expressed his support for ISIS.
He explained that initially, he had planned to harm his family and friends.
But he decided to carry out a public act to draw attention to «the war between the believers and the unbelievers.»
The police also found an ISIS flag in the back of the white Ford-150 truck that Jabbar used to run over dozens of people on Bourbon Street.
Ongoing Investigations
The 42-year-old suspect rented a car in Houston (Texas) on December 30 and drove from there to New Orleans, from where he began posting videos on his Facebook account.
The last one was posted on December 31 at 3:00 a.m., according to the FBI agent.
Authorities also indicated that, at this time, they have no evidence of a «definitive link» connecting the New Orleans attack to the explosion of a vehicle in Las Vegas.
Yesterday, President Joe Biden stated that authorities were investigating a potential connection between these two attacks.
Impact and Reactions
Hours after the hit-and-run, a vehicle exploded in front of the ‘Trump Hotel’ in Las Vegas.
An incident that authorities are also investigating as a possible terrorist act.
Both Jabbar and the driver of the vehicle in Las Vegas, whose identity remains unknown, are dead.
The hit-and-run in Louisiana left 14 dead and at least 35 injured.
