Walmart has announced that all its stores will close on Thanksgiving Day for the fifth consecutive year.
The decision allows employees to have a day off to spend with their families.
«Walmart stores will once again be closed on Thanksgiving Day so that associates can spend the day with their families,» the company said.
Before the pandemic, Walmart remained open on this date for last-minute shopping.
Other Retailers Also Closing on Thanksgiving
Since the 1980s, the company had only closed on Christmas, until COVID-19 changed its policy.
Thanksgiving will fall on November 28 this year, and other retailers, such as Target, ALDI, and Costco, will also close their doors.
Sam’s Club, owned by the same parent company, will raise the average hourly wages for 100,000 workers.
The minimum wage will increase to $16 per hour, one dollar more than the current minimum.
The company emphasized the importance of attracting and retaining talent in a competitive environment.
Sam’s Club wages are expected to grow between 3% and 6%, depending on years of service.

The average hourly rate is expected to exceed $19, excluding bonuses.
This new pay structure will take effect on November 2.
