  • Walmart recalls contaminated celery products in 29 states.
  • This was reported by the FDA.
  • Here are the details.

A preventive food recall has been issued at Walmart stores in 29 states after the presence of Listeria monocytogenes was detected in a batch of ready-to-eat celery sticks.

The bacteria, which can cause serious infections, was found in a product sold under the Marketside brand at a store in Georgia.

The company Duda Farm Fresh Foods, Inc. announced the measure on April 10, in coordination with the Food and Drug Administration (FDA).

This came after a sample of the product tested positive for listeria during routine quality control tests.

Which celery products are contaminated?

Product: Marketside 4-inch / 1.6 oz Celery Sticks
Expiration Date: March 23, 2025
UPC Code: 6 81131 16151 0
Lot Code: P047650

Although the expiration date for the batch has already passed and the product has been removed from store shelves, health authorities warn that some consumers may have stored it in their freezers for later use.

What are the risks associated with the bacteria?

Listeria monocytogenes is a dangerous bacterium, especially for young children, the elderly, immunocompromised individuals, and pregnant women.

It can cause severe infections, miscarriages, or even stillbirth.

In healthy adults, symptoms often include fever, nausea, muscle aches…

Also diarrhea and gastrointestinal discomfort.

Authorities recommend that consumers who purchased a contaminated celery product with that batch and UPC code avoid consuming it and discard it immediately.
