A technical problem at Walmart resulted in overcharges to customers at some stores in the United States.
The incident occurred in mid-March and was reported by Bloomberg News.
Self-checkout machines at at least 1,600 stores malfunctioned on March 19.
This failure prevented price data from reaching the kiosks.
Walmart customers were overcharged
The issue lasted several days, according to an email from the company.
Thousands of items, including food and clothing, were overcharged.

“We’ve made it a priority to refund customers who were overcharged,” said Mischa Dunton, a Walmart spokesperson.
Walmart did not respond to questions about the number of products affected nor the amount overcharged.
Walmart settles a multi-million dollar lawsuit
The company denied any wrongdoing. The exact number of affected stores and their locations are not known.
In January, Walmart agreed to pay $45 million to settle a lawsuit in Florida.
The lawsuit claimed that Walmart overcharged for bags of citrus and some meat, chicken and seafood products.
The store was sued for charging more at the register than the prices posted on the shelves.
