A new recall was ordered in the United States. This is a product recall of several cheese products from the Keswick Creamery company that could be contaminated with the bacteria Listeria monocytogenes, BGR reported.
The recall came after a routine sampling program by the US Food and Drug Administration (FDA) revealed that some cheese products contained the bacteria.
Cheese recall ordered due to the risk of listeria
Listeria monocytogenes is an organism that can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems.
Although healthy people may experience only short-term symptoms, such as high fever, severe headache, stiffness, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea, Listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths among pregnant women.
What are the affected products?
According to BGR, The Keswick Creamery company issued a recall for 10 different types of cheese this week and the FDA later released a statement about the recall. Keswick Creamery in Newburg, Pennsylvania is recalling the following products:
Calverley Cheese, Vulkwin’s Folly Cheese, Vermeer Cheese, Havarti Cheese, Wallaby Cheese, Cider Washed Tomme Cheese, Feta Cheese, Milk Ricotta whole Bovre cheese (plain, oregano and garlic, herbs de Provence, cranberry and honey) and Quark Cheese (plain, dill and onion). Where were the Keswick Creamery products sold?

The company indicated that they stopped the production and distribution of all products as both they and the FDA continue to investigate what caused the problem of possible listeria contamination. The cheeses will be labeled Keswick Creamery, with the name of the cheese on the label.
Keswick Creamery distributed the cheese products listed above at the following locations: Dupont Circle Freshfarm Market in Washington, DC; Takoma Park Farmers Market in Takoma Park, Maryland; Smith Meadows Farm Store in Berryville, Virginia; Oylers Organic Farms and Market in Biglerville, Pennsylvania and at Talking Breads Farm Store in Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania. Although no illnesses related to this recall have been reported to date, the FDA urged consumers who purchased any of the listed cheeses from Keswick Creamery at Carrock Farm, LLC to discard any of these products.
