Brian Thompson, 50, originally from Minnesota, was shot in the chest, according to ABC 13 Houston.

Despite being rushed to Mount Sinai West Hospital, he was pronounced dead shortly after arrival.

The NYPD has indicated that the attack appears to have been premeditated.

However, the motive remains unclear.

Brian Thompson was in New York to attend an investor conference. Sources revealed that several individuals were aware of his itinerary.

Notably, he was not staying at the hotel where the shooting occurred.

A witness, Amar Abdelmula, described the dramatic scene to ABC 13 Houston.

«I wasn’t paying attention, and then I heard the shot. It was a quiet black gun,» he recounted.

«I saw the shooter running across the street after the shot. I tried to take a picture, but he was too far away, and it didn’t come out clear.»

The shooter, wearing a ski mask, fled through an alley near West 55th Street. Authorities have yet to locate him.

Abdelmula, a driver by profession, admitted to being shaken by the incident.

«I was in shock. It’s the first time I’ve seen a crime happen in front of me. I was scared he might shoot me or my car too. I saw everything,» he said after witnessing Brian Thompson’s tragic murder.

The suspect is described as a slim man, approximately 6’1” tall, dressed entirely in black.

Brian Thompson had been CEO of UnitedHealthcare since 2021, following a distinguished career with the company.

He was also known for his academic achievements.

He graduated as valedictorian from the University of Iowa in 1997 with a degree in business administration.

His murder has sent shockwaves through the business world and the local community.

UnitedHealthcare, one of the leading health insurance providers in the U.S., has yet to issue a public statement.

Authorities are working to determine the motive behind the attack and to apprehend the suspect.

Thompson’s death leaves a void in the leadership of UnitedHealthcare and in the lives of those who knew and loved him.

This case adds to growing concerns about violence in New York City, particularly in central areas like Midtown Manhattan.

Safety in these heavily trafficked areas, frequented by both residents and tourists, is now a key topic in public debates.

The NYPD has urged citizens to come forward with any information that might help identify the shooter.

Meanwhile, Brian Thompson’s family is grappling with the immense pain of this sudden loss, ABC 13 Houston reported.
