The United States has launched a series of airstrikes against the Iran-backed Houthi rebels in Yemen.

More than a dozen targets were hit on Friday, including extremist bases and weapons facilities in five strategic locations.

This follows days after U.S. warships were attacked in the Red Sea, as reported by The Sun.

The bombings, carried out by U.S. military aircraft and warships, were concentrated on key maritime routes and military bases controlled by the Houthis.

According to a U.S. official who spoke on condition of anonymity, the operation was still ongoing at the time of the announcement.

Thus, the exact number of destroyed targets has not been confirmed.

However, the same official assured that the mission was aimed exclusively at military targets.

This latest episode of violence comes after several Houthi rebel attacks, in which they launched more than half a dozen ballistic missiles.

What armaments did they use?

In addition to anti-ship cruise missiles and drones, they targeted three U.S. ships passing through the strategic Bab el-Mandeb strait.

All the attacks were intercepted by U.S. Navy destroyers, preventing any damage or casualties.

The Houthi rebels’ offensive follows weeks of rising tensions, including threats from the group to escalate their military operations.

Not only against U.S. targets but also against Israel, amid the ongoing conflict in Gaza.

What acts did the Houthi rebels commit?

The Houthis, who are backed by Iran, have claimed responsibility for more than 80 attacks on merchant and military ships in the Red Sea.

Since the war between Israel and Hamas began in Gaza last October.

Although they claim their actions are in solidarity with the Palestinians, many of the attacked ships have no direct relation to the conflict.

The U.S. airstrikes in Yemen, according to unconfirmed reports, may have been a joint operation with the United Kingdom’s military.

How is the armed movement progressing?

This suggests increased international cooperation in the face of growing threats in the region.

Houthi media reported that seven strikes hit Hodeida airport, a key port city.

And also the Katheib military base, also under Houthi rebels control, as detailed by The Sun.

Additionally, four strikes were recorded in Seiyana, in the capital Sana’a, and two more in the Dhamar province, reflecting the breadth of the operation.
