  • Trump may revoke these measures.

The United States announced new sanctions against Russia’s oil and liquefied gas sector, calling them the «most significant» since the start of the conflict in Ukraine.

These measures aim to limit the revenue that funds the «Kremlin’s war machine,» according to senior U.S. officials.

The estimated economic impact could result in losses of billions of dollars per month for the Russian economy.

The sanctions include restrictions on the export of key technologies and limitations on transactions with Russian energy companies.

President Joe Biden led this initiative as part of a broader economic pressure strategy against Moscow.

However, these measures could be reversed when Donald Trump assumes the presidency on January 20.

Washington and its Western allies have imposed economic sanctions on Russia since February 2022.

The initial restrictions froze over $300 billion in Russian assets and limited the export of advanced technology.

Despite these efforts, the sanctions have not had the decisive impact expected on the Russian economy.

Russia faced economic problems such as inflation and difficulties acquiring essential goods, but its economy withstood more than anticipated.

Japan also announced new sanctions against Russia, which include the ban on exports to certain entities and the freezing of assets.

The Japanese package affects 11 individuals, 32 entities, and three banks linked to Moscow.

These actions are part of Japan’s commitments within the G7, along with Germany, the United Kingdom, Canada, the U.S., France, and Italy.

The G7 thus strengthens the pressure against Russia for its role in the war in Ukraine.
