Trump decided not to testify in his own defense at his criminal trial in New York.

He is accused of falsifying documents about payments to silence a porn actress and protect his presidential campaign in 2016.

He had left open the possibility of testifying until now, although the press indicated that his legal team advised against it.

Trump’s defense team announced today that they do not plan to call any more witnesses, thus ending the possibility that their client might take the stand.

Trump, who is the first former U.S. president to face a criminal trial, is charged with 34 felony counts of falsifying business records.

And, if found guilty, he could be sentenced to anything from probation to four years in prison.

Last week, Michael Cohen, who was Trump’s lawyer and right-hand man, testified that Trump ordered him to pay $130,000 to silence Stormy Daniels during the campaign.

She is a porn star who claims to have had an tryst with Trump in 2006, and Cohen detailed how Trump later reimbursed him for the expenses.

What did Stormy Daniels say?

For her part, Daniels testified that she had sex with the Republican businessman.

Donald Trump, who is running for president again this year, has repeatedly denied having had sexual relations with Daniels or committing any other crimes.

Next week, after closing arguments, the jury of twelve people must unanimously agree on the verdict.

If, for example, eleven jurors agree on a conviction and one disagrees, Judge Merchan will likely ask the twelve people to continue deliberating until they all agree on a verdict.

Will Donald Trump face the consequences of his actions?

If the jurors still cannot reach a consensus, Judge Merchan might be forced to declare a mistrial.

This is what happens when a jury can’t reach a verdict.

Trump’s criminal trial is in its final stretch after several weeks of testimony.

Prosecutors have tried to convince the jury that the businessman falsified documents to silence a porn actress during his 2016 presidential campaign.
