IN THE EYE OF THE STORM! News regarding the criminal trial against the former U.S. president and Republican presidential hopeful Donald Trump in Georgia has been put on hold.

This pause is due to an attempt to overturn the 2020 election results in that state, as ordered by the Court of Appeals this Wednesday.

The proceedings will not resume until a decision has been made regarding the former president’s petition (20717-2021) to disqualify the case’s prosecutor, Fani Willis.

Potentially due to a conflict of interest, according to the decision signed by that court, reported by EFE.

The order from the Georgia Court of Appeals on Wednesday prevents Judge Scott McAfee of the Fulton County Superior Court from proceeding with pre-trial motions as planned.

This while the appeal is pending, stated The Associated Press.

Although it was already unlikely that the case would go to trial before the November general elections, when Trump is expected to be the Republican presidential nominee, this makes it even more certain.

On Monday, the appeals court recorded the appeals filed by Donald Trump and eight other individuals.

Furthermore, they stated that “if oral argument is requested and granted,” it is tentatively scheduled for October 4th.

The court will then have until mid-March to issue a ruling, and the losing party may appeal to the Georgia Supreme Court.

A spokesperson for Willis declined to comment on the appellate court’s ruling, reported by The Associated Press.

In August, a Fulton County grand jury indicted Trump and 18 others for participating in a widespread scheme to illegally overturn the 2020 presidential election in Georgia.
