Former U.S. President Donald Trump announced that he will reveal reciprocal tariffs with other trade partners on Tuesday or Wednesday.
On Monday, he will impose a 25% tariff on imports of steel and aluminum.
Trump made these statements from the presidential aircraft, Air Force One, while en route to New Orleans for the Super Bowl.
«It’s very simple: if they charge us, we charge them,» Trump told the media.
Trump to Impose Reciprocal Tariffs and Immediate Trade Measures
The former president noted that some countries impose tariffs of up to 130% on U.S. goods, while Washington charges nothing in return.
He assured that the reciprocal tariffs would take effect «almost immediately» and would affect «all countries.»
Regarding the measures on steel and aluminum, he said he would announce the details on Monday.
During his presidency (2017-2021), Trump imposed a 25% tariff on steel and a 10% tariff on aluminum.
