President Donald Trump announced on Wednesday a 90-day pause in the application of tariffs.

The measure targets those countries that have not taken commercial retaliation against his tariff plan and have instead sought a negotiated solution.

The Republican explained on his social media platform Truth Social that his decision stems from the fact that over 75 countries have sought to negotiate with Washington.

And that “they have not retaliated in any way against the United States.”

“I have authorized a 90-DAY PAUSE and a substantial reduction of the reciprocal tariff during this period, from 10%, also with immediate effect,” he declared.

In contrast, he increased pressure on China and raised its tariffs “with immediate effect” up to 125%.

He justified the move by claiming that Beijing showed “disrespect” by imposing retaliatory tariffs against the United States.

Trump mocked the dozens of countries that have contacted the White House seeking a negotiated solution to the tariffs.

“These countries are calling us. They’re kissing my ass. They’re desperate to make a deal,” Trump said before the Republican Committee.

Last Wednesday, Trump escalated his trade war by announcing 10% tariffs for almost every country in the world.

He also imposed additional levies on some nations and trade blocs, such as the European Union (EU), whose total tariff rate now reaches 20%.

The 10% tariffs went into effect last Saturday, and the additional ones took effect on Wednesday, according to news agency EFE.
