- Removes Restrictions on Straws
The President of the United States, Donald Trump, has instructed the Administrator of the Environmental Protection Agency, Lee Zeldin, to reinstate regulations on energy-efficient light bulbs and appliances such as showers, toilets, and dishwashers.
Through his social network, Truth Social, Trump stated that it is necessary to «bring back common sense» in regulations and restore the environmental orders that were removed by «corrupt Joe Biden.»
«I look forward to signing these executive orders,» said Trump, who took office for his second term on January 20.
Trump had previously criticized Democratic restrictions on water use and announced that upon returning to the White House, he would eliminate the regulations from Biden’s climate agenda.
Trump Revokes Biden’s Bans on Plastic and Paper Straws
This announcement came a day after Trump signed a decree that revoked bans on plastic straws.
The president also expressed his intention to eliminate the use of paper straws, arguing that they are «less functional, contain harmful chemicals, are more expensive to produce, and require several for their use.»
The impact of this change could be significant in terms of energy and water savings.
Biden’s regulations aimed to promote greater efficiency in resource consumption, which implied a reduction in the carbon footprint of households and businesses.
By reversing Biden’s environmental regulations, progress towards greater sustainability could be hindered.
On the other hand, some critics argue that the removal of the regulations could lead consumers to pay more for their water and electricity bills in the long run.

Although energy-efficient light bulbs and appliances have a higher initial cost, the benefits of energy and water savings could offset this initial investment.
Finally, environmental experts fear that reinstating these norms could delay the transition to cleaner energy and more sustainable practices at home.
The reactivation of Trump’s energy efficiency standards could be seen as a setback in the fight against climate change.
