Former U.S. President and current Republican candidate, Donald Trump, surprised many on Monday by publicly praising the Secret Service after they thwarted a second assassination attempt against him.
During a conversation on the social media platform X with Farokh Sarmad, a cryptocurrency expert, Trump shared details about the incident that took place on Sunday at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida.
Trump recounted that he was playing golf when gunshots were heard, prompting the Secret Service to quickly evacuate him.
«It was quite complicated, but it turned out well. The Secret Service did an excellent job, and they have the man behind bars,» the former president said, highlighting the efforts of the security forces.
PRAISE FOR THE SECRET SERVICE
The Republican also applauded the cooperation of a key witness who managed to photograph the license plate of the suspect’s vehicle as he fled the scene.
This enabled a high-speed chase that ended with the capture of 58-year-old Ryan Wesley Routh, who was arrested on a nearby highway.

Routh had approached the golf course armed with an AK-47 rifle equipped with a telescopic sight, according to the Secret Service.
«They caught him after an incredible chase. The Secret Service and law enforcement did a great job. I’m very pleased with that,» Trump added, visibly satisfied with the quick response from authorities.
BIDEN ALSO MADE AN UNEXPECTED CALL
In addition, Trump revealed that President Joe Biden called him on Monday to express concern over the incident and discuss the possibility of strengthening his security.
«He was very kind to call and make sure I’m okay,» Trump commented, in a rare show of cordiality between the two leaders.
This marks the second assassination attempt against Donald Trump during this campaign season. The first occurred in July during a rally in Pennsylvania, where a man fired at the former president.
That incident led to the resignation of Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle following security failures.
