Donald Trump has promised, if elected president in 2024, to end automatic citizenship for children born in the United States to undocumented immigrants.

This measure would challenge the current interpretation of the 14th Amendment of the U.S. Constitution.

The amendment has been the basis for the right to birthright citizenship, as reported by El Economista.

It was ratified in 1868, and could become an obstacle in the plans of the president-elect, Donald Trump.

The 14th Amendment, ratified in 1868, states:

“All persons born or naturalized in the United States, and subject to the jurisdiction thereof, are citizens of the United States.”

This provision was created to grant citizenship to African Americans after the Civil War.

Additionally, it has been interpreted for over a century as a right for everyone born on U.S. soil, regardless of the immigration status of their parents.

In a campaign video, Trump announced his intention to issue an executive order on his first day in office.

This order would stipulate that birthright citizenship only applies to children of U.S. citizens or legal residents.

The decree would instruct federal agencies to implement this measure, with which Trump seeks to change a historic practice.

Which is protected by the Constitution and ratified in various legal instances.

However, many experts believe that the attempt to modify birthright citizenship could face serious legal obstacles.
