Trump names Marco Rubio as the next US Secretary of State

The president-elect of the United States, Donald Trump, announced this Wednesday the nomination of Marco Rubio, a senator from Florida of Cuban origin, as the next secretary of state.

According to the Efe agency, Rubio will assume diplomatic leadership in January.

The above, becoming the first Latino to hold this position in the history of the country.

In an official statement, Trump highlighted Rubio’s qualities.

The Republican is considered “a highly respected leader and a powerful voice for freedom.”

According to the president-elect, the senator will be a “firm defender” of national interests, committing to protecting the nation.

As well as strengthening ties with United States allies. Trump added that Rubio “will not surrender to adversaries.”

Furthermore, he revealed that he will work tirelessly to return foreign policy to an approach based on “common sense and the common good.”

For his part, Rubio expressed his gratitude and commitment through social networks, indicating that leading the State Department is an “enormous responsibility.”

In addition, he declared that he felt “honored” by the trust that Trump has placed in him.

He also assured that he will dedicate his daily efforts to fulfilling the foreign policy agenda of the next president.

“Under Trump’s leadership we will achieve peace through strength, always putting the interests of Americans first,” Rubio said.

Rubio, born in Miami in 1971, is known for his firm stance on international issues.

His “iron fist” approach has been manifested in his support for sanctions against countries such as Cuba, Venezuela and Nicaragua, and in his firm stance towards China and Iran.

The senator stood out in the 2016 Republican primaries, where he competed directly against Trump, and later supported the president from the Senate.

The above, participating in the Foreign Relations Committee and being influential in Trump’s policy towards Latin America.

With the appointment of Rubio, Trump has already named three key figures for his next cabinet:

Pete Hegseth as Secretary of Defense.

Kristi Noem as Secretary of Homeland Security, and Rubio as Secretary of State.

Additionally, Susie Wiles will be the new chief of staff, John Ratcliffe will head the CIA, Elise Stefanik will represent the United States at the UN, and Tom Homan will take on the role of border czar.
