Maria Town, president of the American Association of People with Disabilities (AAPD), condemned Trump’s use of «ableist» language, emphasizing that such comments reveal more about his biases than about Harris or anyone with a disability.

«Trump perpetuates the false belief that if someone has a disability, they are less human and less deserving of dignity,» Town said.

The AAPD has called on leaders from both parties to denounce the use of ableist language in the 2024 campaign.

Town also reminded the public that several U.S. presidents and former presidents, including Franklin Delano Roosevelt and John F. Kennedy, lived with or had disabilities, demonstrating that the presence or absence of a disability does not determine one’s ability to hold elected office.
