U.S. President Donald Trump stated on Tuesday that he would «love» to cut funding for public radio NPR and state television PBS, which he accuses of lacking impartiality in their coverage.

According to the president, his administration doesn’t need these media outlets since it receives enough attention from private networks.

«I’d love to do it. The whole group is very unfair and biased.»

«It would be an honor if it ended,» he declared at the White House when asked by the press whether he plans to cut federal funding to those two broadcasters.

Trump described funding NPR and PBS as «a waste of money» and claimed his administration could do without these outlets without affecting the public’s access to information.

He also mentioned that he doesn’t know what the recommendation will be from the Department of Government Efficiency, led by Elon Musk, but assumed the agency’s position would be to shut down NPR and PBS.

This statement comes shortly after Trump ordered the closure of the U.S. Agency for Global Media on March 15.

The agency was a government-funded communications network that included Voice of America—an international public media outlet with nearly 2,000 employees.

Both NPR and PBS rely in part on the Corporation for Public Broadcasting (CPB), an entity funded by Congress, local affiliate station fees, and private donations.

However, the potential elimination of federal funds could significantly impact their operations, according to EFE.

The president’s stance has raised concern in various sectors that view public information as a fundamental right.

Nevertheless, Trump stands by his opinion that NPR and PBS provide no value to taxpayers and that eliminating them could be part of his administration’s budget cuts.
