President Donald Trump granted TikTok an additional 75 days this Friday.

Primarily to reach a deal with US-based companies that would allow the short-form video app to cut ties with Chinese parent company ByteDance and continue operating in the United States.

“My Administration has worked hard to reach a deal to SAVE TIKTOK and we have made considerable progress,” he said on his social media platform, Truth Social.

“The deal needs more work to ensure all necessary approvals are signed,” he stated.

“Therefore, I will sign an executive order to keep TikTok running for 75 more days,”

Trump added that he hopes to continue “working in good faith with China”: “We don’t want TikTok to disappear. We hope to work with TikTok and China to close the deal.”

The Republican leader also commented on China’s dissatisfaction with the tariffs his administration has imposed on the Asian giant.

“From what I understand, they’re not very happy with our reciprocal tariffs (necessary for fair and balanced trade between China and the US!),” he added.

“This shows that tariffs are the most powerful economic tool and very important to our national security,” he concluded.

Earlier this week, Trump hinted he would be willing to offer China tariff relief if Beijing approves the ongoing deal to separate ByteDance from TikTok on US soil.

The app was facing a Saturday deadline set by Washington to split from its Chinese parent company within the US.

The previous Congress, during Democratic President Joe Biden’s term (2021–2025), passed a law requiring TikTok to find an investor from a country not labeled an “adversary” before January 20, when Trump took office.

With no deal in place, the app stopped functioning for a few hours in the US until Trump, on his first day back in the White House, signed an executive order granting a 75-day extension—set to expire this Saturday, now extended once again.

Trump explained Thursday that TikTok has “multiple” interested investors, though he did not name them. According to US media outlets, the leading contenders include Amazon, Oracle, and the founder of OnlyFans.

One day earlier, on what he dubbed “Liberation Day,” Trump imposed a 10% tariff on 184 countries and territories, including the European Union (EU).

For China, he announced a 34% tariff, adding to an existing 20%, bringing the total to 54%.
