Donald Trump has faced yet another setback in his legal battles.

This time, a federal appeals court rejected his request to halt proceedings following his conviction in the criminal case related to hush money payments.

This decision keeps in place a key ruling and the sentencing of the former president, which is expected to be issued after the November elections.

A three-judge panel from the U.S. Second Circuit Court of Appeals in Manhattan issued the ruling, denying the emergency motion filed by Trump’s attorneys.

Earlier, the sentencing had been postponed from September 18 to November 26, removing any urgency to halt the case.

Donald Trump, who was convicted of 34 counts of falsifying business records in May, sought to move the case to a federal court, hoping it would dismiss the verdict under claims of presidential immunity.

However, the state court, led by Judge Juan M. Merchan, rejected that request, according to AP.

Merchan also delayed sentencing to avoid the perception that judicial proceedings could influence the presidential election, in which Trump is a candidate.

The charges stem from a $130,000 payment to actress Stormy Daniels in 2016, in an effort to conceal an alleged sexual encounter, which Trump has repeatedly denied.

Despite this, he was charged with falsifying business records, a crime that could carry up to four years in prison.

Donald Trump’s legal fate remains uncertain, AP reports.

This latest ruling confirms that the former president will continue to face the consequences of his actions after the election.
