Donald Trump has dismissed José Andrés, the Spanish chef and founder of World Central Kitchen, from his position as an advisor on the Presidential Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition.
The decision was announced on his first day as President of the United States, as part of a review of previous appointments under the administration of Joe Biden.
«Our first day in the White House is not over,» wrote Trump on X, explaining that his team is working to review and dismiss over a thousand nominees from the previous administration who do not align with his vision of «Making America Great Again.»
Chef José Andrés, who also holds American citizenship, quickly responded, clarifying that he had already submitted his resignation last week, as his two-year term had ended.

Andrés, who was recently awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by Biden, expressed in a message on X: “God give you wisdom, Mr. President, to put aside politics and insults and instead support the ordinary people working to unite America.”
José Andrés was appointed by Biden as co-chair of the Presidential Council on Sports, Fitness, and Nutrition in 2022.
This council promotes physical activity and healthy living for all Americans, regardless of their background or abilities.
The chef highlighted the importance of his work on the council, stating that his collaboration with sports leagues and other entities sought to increase access to sports and health programs for children nationwide.
This is not the first conflict between Trump and Andrés. In 2015, the chef canceled an agreement to open a restaurant in one of Trump’s hotels in Washington in protest of the magnate’s comments about Mexican immigrants.
Following this, both parties went to court and, after years of legal disputes, signed an amicable settlement in 2017.

While no formal response from Andrés to this latest decision by Trump is known, his critical stance towards the Republican’s policies is well-known.
Over the years, Andrés has been a fervent advocate for immigration reform and has tirelessly worked to provide food to people affected by disasters through his NGO, World Central Kitchen.

The dismissal of José Andrés from his post reflects not only the political differences between the chef and Trump but also the impact of tensions in the public and political arena during the first days of Trump’s new administration.
Despite the political controversy, José Andrés’s impact on the American community remains significant.
His work with the World Central Kitchen foundation has been recognized globally, providing food to thousands of people affected by natural disasters and humanitarian crises.
Andrés continues to be an active advocate for immigration reform and inclusion, using his platform to champion the causes he deems just.
Although Andrés’s dismissal reflects tensions between the chef and President Trump, his legacy as a philanthropist and leader in the culinary industry remains intact.
His efforts towards health and well-being continue to be a model for many, demonstrating that true influence lies in acts of service to the community beyond political divisions.
