The U.S. president-elect, Donald Trump, has blamed California Governor Gavin Newsom for the devastation caused by the wildfires currently ravaging Los Angeles.
So far, two people have died, and thousands have been evacuated due to the flames.
Trump, who will take office on January 20, took to social media to criticize Governor Newsom.
According to the president-elect, Newsom refused to sign a declaration that would have allowed millions of gallons of water to flow into the areas affected by the fires.

Trump explained that this water, coming from excess rain and snowmelt from Northern California, could have helped mitigate the spread of the flames.
The president-elect highlighted that current federal and state regulations limit the pumping of water from the Sacramento River Delta to protect the endangered delta smelt, a species at risk of extinction.

However, Trump reminded that during his first administration in 2019, his government declared that water extraction posed no threat to this species.
He added that the restrictions imposed by Newsom have complicated the situation and contributed to the magnitude of the fires.
Trump did not hold back in criticizing the governor, stating, “Newsom preferred to protect a useless fish called the delta smelt while entire communities in California burn.”
“He didn’t care about the people of California,” the president-elect emphasized, generating varied reactions from the public.
“Now we are paying the highest price. I will demand that this incompetent governor allow beautiful, clean, and fresh water to flow to California! He is to blame for this,” he added.

Local authorities are mobilizing all available resources to contain the fire and assist the affected families, as reported by Efe News.
Firefighters and volunteers are working tirelessly to prevent the fire from spreading to new areas, while evacuations continue.
Various experts have warned that wildfires in California have intensified in recent years due to prolonged droughts, high temperatures, and the accumulation of flammable material.
The debate over how to address this issue has been a point of friction between the state and federal governments.
