President Donald Trump signed an executive order on Wednesday banning transgender women from competing in women’s sports.
«In a few moments, I will sign a historic executive order to prohibit men from competing in women’s sports. It’s about time,» Trump said at the signing ceremony at the White House, to vigorous applause from the audience.
«From now on, women’s sports will be for women only. We will proudly defend the tradition of female athletes and will not allow men to beat, injure, and cheat against our women and girls.»
«From now on, women’s sports will be for women,» the president declared.

This action fulfills one of his major campaign promises and is based on an interpretation of Title IX, a federal law that prohibits sex discrimination in federally funded educational programs.
Trump announced that he would pressure the International Olympic Committee (IOC) to exclude trans women from the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics.
«We want them to change everything about the Olympics and this absolutely ridiculous issue,» the president stated. However, the White House did not clarify how this order will be implemented at the event.
The measure also includes denying visas to transgender athletes seeking to compete in the United States.
This could affect the participation of various international teams and lead to diplomatic conflicts.
Opponents of trans women participating in women’s sports argue that they have an unfair biological advantage.
However, a 2017 study published in Sports Medicine found no consistent evidence of athletic superiority.
Another study in 2023 concluded that many physical differences are reduced or disappear with hormonal therapy.

The executive order, named Keeping Men Out of Women’s Sports, represents a radical shift in federal policy on the rights of trans individuals.
During his first term (2017-2021), Trump had already limited the scope of Title IX in cases of sexual harassment.
Later, the Joe Biden Administration reversed these policies and expanded protections for LGBTQ+ students.
Trump’s decision comes after an election campaign in which he strongly opposed trans rights.
In his ads, he attacked his rival, Kamala Harris, claiming she supported the use of public funds for gender reassignment surgeries in prisons.
Despite the controversy, the real impact of this measure is uncertain, as there are no official data on how many trans athletes currently compete in sports events.
