Trump also assured that the United States could «take control» of Gaza, rebuild it and turn it into «the new Middle East Riviera» through large -scale real estate development.
However, its plan has generated strong criticism worldwide, including those of traditional US allies.
The president revealed his proposal on February 4 next to the Israeli Prime Minister, Benjamín Netanyahu. This is reported by EFE.
During his presentation, he did not rule out the deployment of US troops to support reconstruction and said Washington would do «what is necessary» to complete the project.

However, after the controversy, members of his administration, including Secretary of State Marco Rubio, have clarified some aspects, ensuring that the relocation of Palestinians would be temporary and that there is no commitment on the use of troops.
Trump’s announcement reinforces the perception that his plan seeks a permanent restructuring of Gaza.

The Palestinians claim the strip as part of a future state together with the East Bank and Jerusalem, so the forced relocation of its population could mean the end of the viability of a Palestinian state.
The proposal is expected to continue generating controversy, especially before Trump’s meeting with King Abdalá II of Jordan at the White House this Tuesday.
