Trump, known for his confrontational style, attacked the court’s decision on social media.
He also accused President Biden of being behind the «false political accusations» against him.
Trump railed against Biden, blaming him for the court’s decision.
«BIDEN SHOULD DROP ALL OF THESE FAKE POLITICAL INDICTMENTS AGAINST ME, BOTH CRIMINAL & CIVIL. EVERY CASE I AM FIGHTING IS THE WORK OF THE DOJ & WHITE HOUSE,” he said.
Donald Trump attacks the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision
«A SAD DAY IN AMERICA!!!» Trump wrote on one of his many rants on Truth Social.
«WHAT A SHAME FOR OUR COUNTRY!!!» Trump added in another post where he also suggested that the United States is becoming a banana republic.
However, there is no evidence that the Department of Justice (DOJ) or the White House intervened in the Colorado Supreme Court’s decision.
The justices relied on the 14th Amendment to the Constitution, which prohibits those who participated in an insurrection from holding elected office.
Joe Biden supports Colorado’s ruling
For his part, President Biden, when asked about the ruling, said he supports the court’s decision.
He stated that it is evident that Trump supported an insurrection with his participation in the events that led to the assault on the Capitol.
This position is supported by the Colorado Supreme Court itself, which holds that the 14th Amendment justifies Trump’s exclusion from the primary elections.
«Whether the 14th Amendment applies or not, we’ll let the court make that decision. But he certainly supported an insurrection. There’s no question about it,” Biden said.
Trump is furious
The Colorado court ruled: «A majority of the court holds that Trump is disqualified from holding the office of president under Section 3 of the 14th Amendment.»
The court’s statement continues.
«We conclude that because President Trump is disqualified from holding the office of President under Section Three, it would be a wrongful act under the Election Code for the Secretary to list President Trump as a candidate on the presidential primary ballot.»
However, the former president, now sidelined from the primary elections in Colorado, reacted with a defiant tone, according to The Associated Press.
Biden arrives in Milwaukee
Trump published an excerpt from the interview that law professor Jonathan Turley gave to Fox after the ruling was made public.
«This country is a powder keg and this court is simply throwing matches at it,» warned the academic, who disagrees with the court’s decision.
On Wednesday, upon arriving in Milwaukee, where he plans to participate in an event, President Biden initially avoided commenting directly on the court ruling.
However, when asked about Trump’s guilt in relation to the attack on the Capitol, Biden expressed his conviction that he had actively supported the insurrection on January 6.
