The United States Department of Justice accused former President Donald Trump of having hidden or moved classified documents to his Florida residence, according to the last document delivered to the judge handling the case, EFE reported.

According to the DOJ filing, representatives of the former Republican president lied when they indicated that all the classified documents that Trump took with him from the White House had been returned, this was the justification for the August 8 search warrant.

The Justice Department said Tuesday, August 30, that it has uncovered efforts to obstruct its investigation into the discovery of classified documents at former President Trump’s Florida property and that «government records were likely concealed and removed» from a storage room on the property after representatives for Trump assured the authorities that they had thoroughly searched the place.

The FBI seized 33 boxes containing more than 100 classified documents during its Aug. 8 raid at Mar-a-Lago and found three classified documents in office drawers, according to a document that offered the most detailed timeline yet of interactions between members of the FBI, Department of Justice and Trump representatives regarding the discovery of official secrets, according to the AP.

The report filed Tuesday night included a photo showing the covers of several folders, some identified as «TOP SECRET//SCI» with yellow borders and one identified as «TOP SECRET//SCI» with a reddish border, along with pages whose content had been hidden in the image, on a Mar-a-Lago rug.

Next to it was a cardboard box of gilt-framed pictures, including a Time magazine cover. The report gave further indication of the large number of classified documents recovered in the operation. It showed how investigators in the criminal investigation focused not only on why the files had been improperly kept there, but also on whether the Trump team deliberately misled them about the continued and illegal presence of official secrets.

There were also new details about the events in May and June, when FBI and Justice Department officials made a written claim for the missing documents and visited a Mar-a-Lago storage room containing confidential documents and other information.

During that visit in June, according to the report, Trump’s lawyers told agents that all the files that had been taken from the White House were kept in one place, a storage room in Mar-a-Lago, and «there were no other records stored in any private office space or other location at the Premises and that all available boxes were searched.”

After that, however, the Justice Department «developed evidence that government records were likely concealed and removed from the Storage Room and that efforts were likely taken to obstruct the government’s investigation.»

In their search this month, agents found classified documents both in that storage room and in the former president’s office, including three classified documents that were not in boxes but in office desks. The report responded to a request by Trump’s legal team for a special review of documents seized during the Aug. 8 search at Mar-a-Lago. Liz Cheney tweeted: «More indefensible conduct by Donald Trump revealed this morning.»
