In a tragic twist of fate, the vacation of Jorge Guillén and his wife, Lizzette Zambrano, in Puerto Peñasco, Mexico, ended in tragedy.

This incident occurred in a jacuzzi on Tuesday, June 11, as reported by the Attorney General’s Office of Justice of the State of Sonora (FGJES).

It was just after 8 PM when, according to the FGJES, a possible fault in the jacuzzi’s electrical wiring caused an electric shock.

Guillén died instantly, while Lizzette Zambrano suffered severe and potentially fatal injuries.

Zambrano was immediately taken to a local hospital, where doctors confirmed that her injuries were consistent with an electric shock, according to KTSM.

Subsequently, she was transported to the United States, where she remains in critical condition.

The severity of Lizzette Zambrano’s injuries keeps her family and friends in constant vigil, hoping for her recovery.

A witness, who knew the couple, was the first to notice that something was wrong, according to the cited media.

Seeing that Guillén and Zambrano were not moving in the jacuzzi, she tried to enter to help them but received an electric shock upon touching the water.

Terrified, the witness immediately called the authorities for help.

The FGJES has launched a comprehensive investigation to determine the exact causes of the accident and the potential responsibilities of the resort.

The news of the tragic accident has deeply moved the community of El Paso.

Jorge Guillén was an evening student of refrigeration and HVAC at Western Technical College and was about to graduate on Friday, June 14, reported KTSM.

Previously, he worked as a detention officer at the Otero Processing Center from 2011 to 2018. His colleagues and friends have expressed their sorrow for his loss.

«We are deeply saddened by the loss of Mr. Guillén, who was a great employee and friend. We offer our condolences to his family and friends during this difficult time,» stated the processing center in a statement.

Lizzette Zambrano, for her part, had worked as a teacher at East Point Elementary School until 2022, according to the Ysleta Independent School District.

In a gesture of solidarity, friends of the family have created a GoFundMe campaign to support the couple during these difficult times.

The funds raised will go towards covering Zambrano’s medical costs and Guillén’s funeral expenses.
