A powerful storm system has severely struck the central and eastern United States, leaving a tragic toll of at least 35 people dead.

The combination of tornadoes, dust storms, wildfires, and blizzards has wreaked havoc across various regions of the country.

Sunday marked the third and final day of this severe weather system, with the threat extending along the Interstate 95 corridor from the Northeast down to Florida.

According to authorities, at least 23 people died in four states due to tornadoes that hit the Midwest and Southeast from Friday to Saturday.

Tornadoes Leave at Least 35 Dead

The most affected state has been Missouri, where authorities have confirmed the deaths of at least a dozen people.

Six victims were recorded in Wayne County, three in Ozark County, and two in Butler and Jefferson counties.

St. Louis County police reported that a woman was found dead in the backyard of her home near fallen power lines.

One of the most destructive tornadoes formed in Villa Ridge, on the outskirts of St. Louis, where it was captured on video causing significant damage.

Tragedy from Tornadoes

According to storm chasers, the weather phenomenon caused numerous lightning strikes, overturned several trucks, and damaged various structures.

Other US communities affected by tornadoes include Rolla, Hartville, and areas near St. Louis, according to Fox Weather.

Arkansas also suffered the consequences of the storm system, with three deaths confirmed in Independence County and at least 29 injured across eight counties, according to the Arkansas Division of Emergency Management.

Given the severity of the situation, Mississippi Governor Tate Reeves declared a state of emergency after tornadoes and an earthquake shook the state over the weekend.

«Tragically, so far six deaths have been reported: one in Covington County, two in Jeff Davis County, and three in Walthall County,» Reeves declared Saturday night.

«Additionally, three more people are missing: two from Covington County and one from Walthall County.»

In Alabama, Governor Kay Ivey reported the deaths of two people due to extreme weather.

«Yesterday’s severe weather affected most of Alabama,» Ivey stated. «Unfortunately, we learned of the loss of at least two fellow Alabamians: one in Plantersville and another in Winterboro.»
