At 10:16 p.m. on May 1, 2021, police received a call about a collision involving several cars that had caused serious injuries.
What happened that night?
It all happened at the intersection of Northeast and 33rd Avenue in Homestead, Florida.
Homestead Police Department investigators explained in their report that Rodriguez was driving a 2015 Infiniti Q50 with three passengers in his car when he ran a red light going 109 miles an hour and crashed into another vehicle.
One of the passengers was his wife, who was eight months pregnant.
The heartbreaking details revived the pain for the victims’ families and highlighted the emotional toll of the tragedy.

Tomás Javier Rodríguez was going at a very high speed towards the intersection of Northeast and 33rd Avenue, the officers stated in their report.
That’s when he crashed into a 2019 Nissan Pathfinder.
But, he still did not stop. He continued until he crashed into a 2019 Nissan Pathfinder, whose driver was pulling out of a parking lot.
Everything was recorded on security videos obtained from the nearby gas station, the arrest report stated.
He killed his pregnant wife and his close friend
Rodríguez’s car was unrecognizable and one of his passengers, Joshua Nicholas Guerra, 23, was declared dead at the scene by authorities.
His wife, Krystine Aras, who was eight months pregnant, Lunane Castellano, 30, and Rodríguez were removed from the vehicle.
All three were taken to hospitals in serious condition.
Krystine Aras was admitted to Jackson South where she died shortly after.

Doctors performed an emergency cesarean section to try to save the baby, but he did not survive his injuries.
Castellanos was the only passenger to survive.
The Infiniti’s black box revealed that Rodríguez driving 109 miles per hour.
Blood tests showed that his blood alcohol was 0.26%, three times the legal limit of 0.08%, the police report detailed.
He pleaded guilty to three DUI manslaughter charges
Homestead police said they also confiscated 30 grams of marijuana, which was in Rodriguez’s possession.
As he listened to all the details of that fatal night, his feelings overwhelmed him and he broke down.
He asked for forgiveness and declared: «I wish I was the one that died and not them.»
Initially, he faced 11 criminal charges.

He pled guilty to three counts of DUI manslaughter and the court dismissed the other charges.
The judge sentenced Tomás Javier Rodríguez to 14 years in prison.
He also received eight years of probation and his driver’s license is suspended for 15 years.
According to NBC 6, at the sentencing, Judge Jean told the families: «What I hope is that you all would have peace, however you find it.»
