  • Genny de Bernardo shares with you the legend of the treasure of Miñaca, a story from Chihuahua, Mexico.
  • There are many rumors about this legend and many people have gone in search of the treasure.
  • However, no one has been able to find this site.

In a small town near what is now the location of La Junta in Chihuahua, lived a woman who dedicated herself to attending to women about to give birth.

She assisted them during childbirth, as in those times there were hardly any doctors available. This lady was highly sought after by residents throughout the municipality.

On one occasion, in the early morning, a group of Apaches came to her house in search of her services.

At first, she was reluctant to accompany them due to the darkness of the night and the intimidation caused by the presence of the Indians. However, they forcibly took her along.

They blindfolded her, mounted her on a horse, and took her to a place not far away, on top of a mountain.

She knew they were on a mountain peak because it was still dark when they arrived, and the path was rugged.

Finally, they led her to a cave where they found an indigenous woman experiencing difficulties in childbirth and crying out loudly.

The woman realized that the young woman appeared to be the daughter or a close relative of the tribe’s chief, as everyone was very attentive to what was happening.

The midwife attended to the woman and managed to deliver a baby. The Apaches were very happy and celebrated the event effusively.

At that moment, the woman who had assisted in the birth noticed that the cave contained great treasures, such as gold objects, jewels, and gold coins.

As a token of gratitude, the Apache chief gave her several gold items and then returned her to her home.

She did not know exactly where they had taken her, but she realized it was Cerro Miñaca, as it is the only mountain in that area.
