In the Guarani domains, around the bonfires, peasants gather in circles, recounting over and over the stories of the «Yaguareté Tié» (the tiger to be avoided), each time with more details.

Once upon a time, there was a good and hardworking man who resided on the banks of the Gualeguay River.

However, one day, thieves ambushed him and ruthlessly killed him to rob him.

The man died looking back, with his eyes wide open, as if announcing his revenge against his attackers. And so it happened.

Shortly after, from among the cane fields of the swamp, emerged a gigantic black tiger that pounced on one of the criminals and struck him down with a single swipe of its claw, without harming the other companions.

This pattern repeated with the other criminals, one after another.

Wherever one of the killers was, the tiger appeared, selecting the guilty one without hesitation and eliminating him.

All the criminals succumbed to the relentless claw of the Yaguareté Tié, and since then, there is no memory of the tiger attacking anyone else…

This tiger was none other than the good peasant turned beast, by unknown influences, to avenge his own death. Even today, the black tiger wanders through the cane fields.

Although it is true that he does not attack anyone, as he has already fulfilled his purpose, everyone fears him for his supernatural origin, hoping that one day he will disappear from the swamps to the relief of the inhabitants, who live with the constant expectation of that prodigious event…

A wonderful story with characteristic elements of those narratives of ancestral cultures.

Mitos y leyendas bids you farewell for the moment and hopes that the legend of the tiger Yaguareté Tié has been to your liking. Until next time!
