CALL FOR JUSTICE! In an emotional ceremony on Thursday, family, friends, and public officials gathered to bid farewell to Jocelyn Nungaray.

A 12-year-old girl whose tragic murder has shaken the community and highlighted the flaws in the United States immigration system.

Jocelyn was a vibrant, loving child passionate about reading and animals, whose life was brutally taken.

On June 17, her body was found in a creek near her home; the medical examiner’s report confirmed that she was strangled, reported The Associated Press.

Many in the community shared this sentiment of outrage, highlighting the tensions and divisions surrounding the immigration issue.

«I used to feel sorry for immigrants, but since this happened, it made me change my mind about who to let in and who not,» said Christine Núñez, a relative of Jocelyn Nungaray.

«I can’t say that all are bad; there are good people, but they need to close the borders and not let everyone in, and look at each individual,» Núñez told the New York Post.

During the service, officials also called for unity and action. «We are sad but outraged and angry that this happened in our community,» said Mayor Whitmire.
