Four family members died in a tragic accident that occurred on Saturday night in Grand Prairie, Texas.
The crash occurred after their vehicle was struck by a car involved in a suspected street race.
The incident took place around 8:00 p.m.
According to a statement from the Grand Prairie Police Department, detectives believe that the driver of a red Dodge Charger, identified as 20-year-old Jaime Mesa, was «traveling at high speed» while competing in a race with another individual in a white vehicle.
4 Dead in Texas from Crash Related to Street Racing
During the event, the red Dodge Charger collided with a Chevy Traverse SUV that was making a left turn on a highway.
Three of the people inside the SUV died at the scene, while two others were taken to the hospital, where tragically and sadly a fourth victim died.
The fifth surviving person is in critical condition, according to the police and an online fundraising campaign for the family.
Mesa was also taken to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries and faces charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, one count of racing on a highway causing serious injury, four counts of manslaughter, and four counts of racing on a highway causing death.
