The organizers of Taylor Swift’s three concerts scheduled in the Austrian capital announced their cancellation on Wednesday.
This decision came after authorities revealed the detention of two suspects involved in an apparent terrorist plot targeting one of the events in the city.
The American singer was set to perform at the Ernst Happel Stadium in Vienna on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday as part of her successful Eras Tour.
On Wednesday, Austrian authorities reported the detention of two alleged extremists, according to The Associated Press.

Following the arrests, details about the suspected terrorists were disclosed. One is a 19-year-old, arrested in Ternitz, south of Vienna.
The second suspect, a 17-year-old teenager, was detained in the capital itself.

According to investigators, both suspects were ideologically linked to extremist groups like ISIS and Al-Qaeda.
During the raid at the main suspect’s house, police found materials for making explosives, highlighting the seriousness of the plan.

Authorities indicated that the 19-year-old had been preparing the attack during Taylor Swift’s concerts since July.
His intention was «to kill as many people as possible outside the concert venue,» using knives or homemade explosives.
Omar Haijawi-Pirchner, head of the State Security and Intelligence Directorate, stated that the young man had pledged allegiance to the current leader of ISIS.
This was done through a video posted online, confirming his radicalization.

Austria’s Interior Minister, Gerhard Karner, expressed that the situation was extremely serious.
Thanks to the timely intervention of Vienna security forces, a large-scale tragedy involving terrorism was averted.
«The situation was serious, but we can also say that a tragedy was avoided,» Karner stated in a press conference.
The concert organizers, Barracuda Music, justified their decision in an Instagram post, citing the safety of attendees as the top priority.

Reactions also came from the Austrian government. Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler lamented on platform X:
«For many, a dream was shattered today,» referring to the thousands of fans eagerly awaiting the Vienna concerts.
«The Swifties stick together; hate and terror cannot destroy that,» he added, in a message of encouragement to the artist’s followers.
