According to investigators, both suspects were ideologically linked to extremist groups like ISIS and Al-Qaeda.

During the raid at the main suspect’s house, police found materials for making explosives, highlighting the seriousness of the plan.

What was the attackers’ plan?

Authorities indicated that the 19-year-old had been preparing the attack during Taylor Swift’s concerts since July.

His intention was «to kill as many people as possible outside the concert venue,» using knives or homemade explosives.

Omar Haijawi-Pirchner, head of the State Security and Intelligence Directorate, stated that the young man had pledged allegiance to the current leader of ISIS.

This was done through a video posted online, confirming his radicalization.

What did the authorities say about it?

Austria’s Interior Minister, Gerhard Karner, expressed that the situation was extremely serious.

Thanks to the timely intervention of Vienna security forces, a large-scale tragedy involving terrorism was averted.

«The situation was serious, but we can also say that a tragedy was avoided,» Karner stated in a press conference.

The concert organizers, Barracuda Music, justified their decision in an Instagram post, citing the safety of attendees as the top priority.

Reactions also came from the Austrian government. Vice Chancellor Werner Kogler lamented on platform X:

«For many, a dream was shattered today,» referring to the thousands of fans eagerly awaiting the Vienna concerts.

«The Swifties stick together; hate and terror cannot destroy that,» he added, in a message of encouragement to the artist’s followers.

Chancellor Karl Nehammer also expressed his disappointment over the cancellation but highlighted the efficiency of the cooperation between Austrian and foreign police and intelligence services. WITH INFORMATION FROM AP.
