Meteorologists at AccuWeather warn that a powerful storm will develop midweek in the Great Lakes region.
The storm is expected to bring drastic changes in weather conditions, much-needed rain, and a significant drop in temperatures.
This phenomenon, intensifying from Wednesday through Friday, will also be accompanied by strong winds affecting areas of the Midwest and Eastern United States.
According to Brett Anderson, senior meteorologist at AccuWeather, these conditions could lead to dangerous waves on the lakes and additional power outages.
STORM IN THE US MIDWEST CAUSES CONCERN
The cold front associated with this storm will pull frigid air from Canada, causing significant cooling that will extend toward the Southeast and central Appalachians.
This shift could lead to intense snowfall near the Great Lakes due to the «lake-effect snow» phenomenon.

Snow accumulations are also expected further south in the Ohio Valley and Appalachians starting Wednesday night and lasting through the weekend.
However, drought remains a critical problem in the northeast of the country.
What’s Happening in the Northeast?
In the Northeast, the situation remains critical.
Over 96% of the region is facing abnormally dry or drought conditions, increasing the risk of wildfires in states such as New York, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania.
While rains associated with the storm in the US Midwest could be beneficial, they are not expected to significantly alleviate the drought.
«Strong winds following the system could quickly evaporate any accumulated moisture,» explained Brett Anderson, senior meteorologist at AccuWeather.
