The terrible news of David Carter Payne’s death came from his team, Tormenta FC, who informed fans and the general public that the young athlete had suffered a fatal accident while driving an electric scooter in Georgia.

The Statesboro Police Department reported that the young soccer player was riding an electric scooter near Food World, on the side of the road from the Georgia Southern campus, when a driver hit him. He was seriously injured.

Even though Payne was airlifted to a hospital in Savannah, Georgia, he later died due to injuries caused in the accident, according to local outlet WTOC. The driver of the car fled the scene.

Payne’s team broke the sad news. «South Georgia Tormenta FC is deeply saddened by the tragic loss of Tormenta FC 2 defender David Carter Payne,» they said in a statement that was posted on social media.

“Carter passed away today, July 9. A member of Tormenta FC 2’s 2022 USL League Two team, Payne was a tremendous athlete, teammate and friend, and he will be sorely missed by everyone involved at the club,» the team added in its official statement.

Finally, they added that «Carter was hospitalized at Memorial Health: Southeast Georgia Hospital after being involved in a vehicle, pedestrian accident in Statesboro, Georgia. Carter’s family, friends and all of Tormenta Nation are grieving today,» they concluded.

Previously, the Tormenta FC had reported to fans that one of their main players had been involved in an accident. Unfortunately, the 20-year-old soccer player from Phoenix, Arizona, was unable to survive the injuries resulting from the accident.
