One person died and several were wounded in a shooting on a Greyhound bus in Northern California. The attacker was eventually arrested at a nearby Walmart, police said Wednesday night, according to the AP and the The Sun.

The Police received a call shortly after 7:30 p.m. saying that someone was shooting inside a bus parked outside an ampm store in Oroville, north of Sacramento, according to a Butte County police statement.

Oroville police officers found multiple people with gunshot wounds inside the Greyhound bus. One of them died at the scene despite attempts to give her first aid, police said.

The assailant had fled by the time the officers arrived. However, after 911 received several calls, they located the suspect in a Walmart store and arrested him, according to the authorities. He is now in police custody and awaiting trial.

The number of people shot and their status was not initially made public, although Oroville Mayor Chuck Reynolds had previously said on Facebook that five people had been shot outside of the ampm store.

A CHILD WAS INJURED IN THE ATTACK

Authorities confirmed that one of the victims was a child whose injuries were not life-threatening. Police officers say the suspect was apprehended moments after he was found at the Walmart.

In turn, Oroville Mayor Chuck Reynolds told CBS13: «I think this is a changing world where life is not as precious as it used to be.» Cops were said to have apprehended the suspect and «located evidence that gave them reason to believe he was the suspect involved in the shooting.»

The authorities confirmed that witnesses called the police and were able to give them the attacker’s location. “The shooting suspect fled the scene before law enforcement arrived,” the Butte County Sheriff’s Office said.

“The suspect was taken into custody and transported to the Butte County Jail. The investigation is ongoing and more information will be released when it becomes available,” authorities reported on the unfortunate incident aboard a passenger bus.

In a statement, Greyhound told KRCR: “Our primary concern at this time is the safety of our driver and passengers. We are working closely with the local authorities.”
