- Sheinbaum Rejects Mexico Paying for Trump’s Border Wall
- Amid tensions between both countries.
- Here are the details.
The President of Mexico, Claudia Sheinbaum, rejected this Monday that her country will finance the construction of the border wall that her American counterpart, Donald Trump, has resumed after his return to the White House.
During her daily conference at the National Palace, Sheinbaum denied the existence of an agreement with the U.S. and expressed her disagreement with the measure.
«No, of course not. It is a decision with which we do not agree,» she emphasized, dismissing any negotiation involving Mexican resources in the work.
The reaction of the Mexican president comes after the announcement by the Trump administration about the resumption of the construction of more than 120 kilometers of wall on the border with Mexico, insisting that the Mexican government will bear the cost of the infrastructure.

Sheinbaum emphasized the need to strengthen cooperation and commercial integration between both countries instead of erecting walls.
As an example, she highlighted the recent inauguration of a railway bridge in Nuevo Laredo, a border city with Texas, which symbolizes the importance of trade and joint development.
«This new railway bridge in Nuevo Laredo carries goods from the center of Mexico to Canada and is a good symbol.»
«We need to build bridges, not walls,» she stated.

The reactivation of Trump’s border wall has generated mixed responses in both countries, as reported by the news agency EFE.
Trump, for his part, has based much of his migration discourse on the promise to strengthen the border since his first term (2017-2021).
Meanwhile, Sheinbaum defends cooperation and respect for national sovereignty in decision-making on migration policies.
