A boy in Ohio found a sewing needle stuck inside a Kit Kat candy bar he received this Sunday while trick-or-treating in his neighborhood, reported the Fostoria Police Division.

“Why would someone do this? We’ve all heard of this kind of thing happening, but having someone do this in our community is really upsetting!” The police department said in a Facebook post advising parents to carefully check their children’s candy.

According to NBC11 News, ProMedica Fostoria Community Hospital in the city of Fostoria will offer free X-ray scans on Monday so that parents who suspect that their children may have received candy that has been tampered with can inspect it.

The hospital announced that the free scans will be available only on Monday, November 1 in the morning hours between 9 and 11 am and in the afternoon between 5 and 7 pm “Anyone interested in having an X-ray of trick-or-treat sweets must go to the main entrance but not enter the hospital since staff will have a portable X-ray machine available,” WFIN reported.

“While we are only aware of two candy bars involved, we take this seriously and are horrified that someone is crazy enough to want to hurt the children of our community,” said Fostoria Police Chief Keith Loreno.

Police said the tampered treats were handed out Saturday, Oct. 30 during the Seneca County-wide trick-or-treating event. Likewise, authorities stated that if anyone has information about who may be behind the tainted chocolates, they should immediately contact the Fostoria Police at 419-435-8573.
