Authorities have not released the victim’s name to protect her identity, but she shares the same last name.
The woman reported the abuse on March 25 when she went to the Grand Rapids police to file a domestic violence complaint.
During the interview with the police, the victim revealed that her husband, Saul Lucio-Ipina, constantly accused her of infidelity.
On March 24, her husband forced her into the basement and tied her to a swing she had installed for her children.
Saul Lucio-Ipina then bound her arms and back with wires, also securing her ankles with a metal tie.
He then connected battery cables to an exposed electrical wire, shocking her whenever he felt she wasn’t answering his questions correctly.
The torment lasted approximately five hours until the man grew tired and released her.
A police officer who interviewed the woman observed significant bruising on her arms, legs, and torso.
The victim also recounted a previous incident, two months prior, when Saul Lucio-Ipina attempted to strangle her in the basement.
Despite the severity of the incident, she did not report it at the time.
