Sara Nicole Morales, five months pregnant, was shot dead in Florida following a road rage incident with a motorcyclist. The Orange City Police Department (OCPD) is investigating the death of the woman who, ironically, was carrying a gun with which she allegedly threatened her killer.

As of this writing, the OCPD hasn’t charged the man who shot Sara Nicole Morales. This is because after shooting the woman, the motorcyclist remained at the scene of the confrontation and offered voluntary testimony to the authorities, claiming legitimate defense.

Sara Nicole Morales was a librarian in Volusia County. She was a mother who was pregnant with another baby and had plans to marry her boyfriend. According to OCPD’s investigations, it was Morales herself who caused the incident that ended with her death.

According to the crime report sent to MundoHispánico, last Saturday, November 20 at 5:00 a.m. in the afternoon, Sara Nicole Morales was driving her blue Kia when she intentionally, for some unknown reason, rammed a motorcyclist on US 17-95 and then sped away.

Sara Nicole Morales left the scene at full speed after ramming the motorcyclist. He and other motorists went to chase the woman to make her take responsibility for the accident she had caused. The chase continued to the intersection of US 17-95 on East Wisconsin Avenue.

The motorcyclist and other drivers who witnessed the crash that Sara Nicole Morales caused surrounded her in front of a business on 1052 E. Wisconsin Avenue and asked her to stop. However, Morales somehow managed to escape the crowd in her blue Kia and sped away.

Sara Nicole Morales, followed by the motorcyclist and other drivers, managed to drive her Kia to her house on 1052 East Wisconsin Avenue and parked in her garage. The motorcyclist called the OCPD emergency number and reported the accident that Sara Nicole Morales had caused moments before.

After the motorcyclist made the call surrounded by other motorists who served as his witnesses, Sara Nicole Morales came out of her house with a gun in her hand and pointed it at the people gathered in front of her home. It is not specified if her son and boyfriend were inside the house.

Sara Nicole Morales, enraged, pointed her gun at the motorcyclist despite the fact that he asked her to calm down because he wanted to resolve the whole crash incident peacefully. However, Sara Nicole Morales kept pointing the gun at him and at one point was about to pull the trigger.

The motorcyclist saw that Sara seemed to about to shoot at him. He took out his own gun from his waist. The motorcyclist fired a round that hit the pregnant woman, who fell badly wounded in front of the garage of her house next to her car.

After the shooting, it was the motorcyclist himself who called the OCPD emergency number to report that he had just shot at Sara Nicole Morales. The first officer to arrive on the scene questioned the man, who showed that he was legally in possession of the gun and had been trained to use it properly.

Sara Nicole Morales was rushed to Halifax Hospital by Orange City Fire Department (OCFD) paramedics for treatment. However, she did not survive the shooting and died as doctors fought in the emergency room to save her life.

According to the Homicide Division of the OCPD report, when the first officer from their department arrived at the scene where Sara Nicole Morales died, the motorcyclist handed over his weapon to police and very calmly told them, “the girl wanted to kill me.”

At the scene of the shooting, the agents recovered the weapon that Sara Nicole Morales took from her house and pointed at the motorcyclist. The motorcyclist was released after he submitted his voluntary statement and stated that he had had to shoot in self-defense when he was threatened by the pregnant woman.

Sara Nicole Morales is just one more victim of gun violence in the United States. The nonprofit organization National Archive of Gun Violence reported that, so far, in 2021, 39,865 people have already been shot dead.

As of Sunday, November 14, 2o21, of those people who have been shot dead in the United States, 18,415 were murdered and 21,450 committed suicide. Also, 36,419 people have been injured. The country has already experienced 636 mass shootings, in which at least four people died.

To honor the death of Sara Nicole Morales, the County of Volusia, in central Florida, determined that public libraries remain closed on Monday, November 22, and Tuesday, November 23, and the flags were lowered in mourning.

Suzanne Koncham, deputy director of Volusia County, issued a statement in which she said that the immediate concern of the authorities is, “the well-being of Sara Nicole Morales’ family, that of her colleagues in the library and of all employees … we are shocked for the incident.”

In the United States, in general, and in Texas, in particular, incidents of road rage or anger on the highways are alarming because they people are killed and injured over insignificant confrontations between motorists. This was the case with Sara Nicole Morales who was shot dead after a confrontation with a motorcyclist.

According to the nonprofit organization Counseling Association in America, a group of psychologists from different branches of mental health, cases of road rage in the country are caused by people who do not have strategies in their daily life to cope with frustration, so they explode when stressed while driving and may need professional help.

“Clearly, such out-of-control actions are illegal, dangerous, and can cause harm to you and those around you. If you have experienced a form of out-of-control road rage, it is vital that you seek professional assistance. This is a condition that needs help in anger management,” the organization said.

According to the U.S. Census Bureau, Orange City, northeast Florida, has a small population of just 12,000 residents, and only 5 out of every 10 are Hispanic. Sara Nicole Morales was remembered for being a loyal, dedicated, and very professional worker in the county libraries.
